Among the many statues dedicated to Captain America, the Classic version by Bowen Design is probably the one that embodies the traditional features of the character (at least, the classic one designed by the masters of the House of Ideas: Kirby, Romita, Buscema) at best. Not by chance, in my humble opinion, it represents the best 1:6 piece devoted to the hero and a must-have for all fans of Marvel collectibles, both for the undeniable charm and quality of the sculpt and the relevance of the character in the Marvel Universe. The statue was sculpted by Randy Bowen and released in 2007 in 2500 copies. In spite of such a relevant run and the many, subsequent statues dedicated to Steve Rogers by the same Bowen Design (as well as by a lot of other companies), its market quotation has always been relatively high and, more or less, constant over the years, thus demonstrating the general appreciation of collectors. The super soldier is depicted in what we can identify as the prototype of the museum pose: he stands proudly erect, with feet slightly apart and fists clenched, the head just rotated and the legendary shield at his right arm in good evidence. The sculpt is faithful to the original Comics of the so called Silver Age and very similar to the style of John Buscema. The physique is powerful and well proportioned, the mask exhibits the big "A" on forehead and the typical protruding side fins; the gloves and boots have the classic high lapels and some scales are sketched here and there on the bust, sculpted with a great craftsmanship. Also the facial traits are reminiscent of Buscema style, as well as the perfect blue and red tones used for the costume. Besides to the natural and synergistic colors balance of the American flag, the piece exhibits some top-class hues, aimed at highlighting the muscle contours and the folds of tissue everywhere. The size and the curvature of the shield are perfect, thus providing a perfect match with the figure; its painting is shinier compared to the suit and shows a gorgeous, vaguely metallic tonality. The statue is equipped with two cylindrical bases (with a diameter of about 13 cm). The first is rather high, with equidistant silver stars located on the lateral surface. The second is lower and shows (on the support plane) the classic and charming coat of arms of the Unites States: an eagle clawing an olive branch and arrows, signifying the willingness of the people to peace, but also the determination to defend, by force if necessary, their rights and freedom. A timeless classic of extreme elegance and beauty that cannot miss in a Marvel collection!
